A New Season Begins

With auditions come and gone, our Performance team has started up their rehearsals! From here our team members will start learning new choreography and new dance steps to prepare them for our first big event of the season: the December Showcase at Spotlight Ballroom! For many this is their first time performing and for some it’s their first time dancing at all! In either case, they’re about to embark on a dance journey unlike any other.

A lot happens in the first few months of joining Spirit in Motion that other dancers don’t experience. From the start, our directors set high expectations for practice and participation and our members are immediately thrown into the world of dance! They’re expected to learn new dance moves, more technique, and a whole new dance vocabulary they never knew existed. The amount they learn and improve is exponential! Some veteran members decide to take on a new challenge and learn to dance the opposite role. Many of our Followers have taken on the challenge of learning to lead – which as any dancer teacher knows is a completely new experience! The start of the season can certainly be overwhelming, but the support of our team members is what guides us through and our love of dance is what drives us to do better.

And everyone is working on something. Our newest dancers may be working out their left foot from their right foot. Our experienced members are working on the subtle intricacies of ballroom and Latin technique. At each practice we all learn the differences between social dance styling and performance dance styling. And our choreographers are pushing us to do better with each and every practice.

Each year we invite dancers who want to work hard, are eager to learn, and strive to become better dancers and this year’s team is no exception. We seek to spread our love of dance and foster a community of caring, supportive dancers who build each other up. We invite you to join us on this exciting journey and experience all our hard work at the December Showcase later this year! As our fearless director and founder, Gwen Burton, says: be safe, have fun, and JUST DANCE!

See you on the dance floor!
